Choosing the right Full Blockout Roller Blind System can feel overwhelming with so many options to consider. At My Direct Blinds, we’ve simplified the process into key steps to help you select the perfect system for your space.
Key Steps for Choosing a Full Blockout Roller Blind System:
1. Assess the Room
Start by familiarising yourself with the room where the blinds will be installed. Consider factors like the room’s layout, color scheme, window size, and the amount of sunlight it receives. Don’t forget to check for any obstructions around the window or door that could affect the installation.
Our custom Full Blockout Roller Blind System helps block external light, provides privacy, and can improve energy efficiency.
2. Choose the Right Fabric
Our range of blockout fabrics is designed for different applications, offering various colors and textures. Each fabric comes with detailed technical specifications to guide your decision. When selecting a fabric, consider your room’s purpose, internal color schemes, privacy needs, and design preferences. Blockout fabrics, known for their solid material construction, are designed to completely prevent light from entering the room, making them ideal for creating a dark and private space.
3. Consider Energy Efficiency
Blockout fabrics also play a significant role in energy efficiency. They help reduce heat and minimize heat loss through windows and doors. If energy savings are important to you, choosing blockout fabric for your Full Blockout Roller Blind System will contribute to maintaining a comfortable indoor temperature.
4. Blind Configuration Options
When it comes to mounting the blinds, you have two main options:
- Recess Fit (Back Rolled):
The blinds are mounted inside the window frame. This option is ideal if there are no obstructions in the window. A minimum depth of 35mm is required, and the tracks will be placed around 50mm from the edges to prevent light leakage. - Face Fit (Back Rolled):
The blinds are mounted on the outside of the window, typically to the architrave or wall. This option works best if the window frame or space isn’t suitable for a recess fit.
5. Consider Large Windows or Doors
For larger windows or doors, we recommend splitting the system into separate units and joining them at the window mullion. If preferred, we can create one large system, but this may involve additional costs.
6. Top Cassette Consideration
Top cassettes are a great addition to a Full Blockout System as they help block light from entering from the top. While pelmets offer a less expensive visual option, top cassettes provide superior light-blocking benefits.
7. Hardware Choices
The Full Blockout Roller Blind System comes in three color options: White, Black, and Anodised. Choose the appropriate color for the hardware and chain that best suits your room’s design. Plastic chains tend to have a longer lifespan than metal options.
8. Motorisation
For a sleek, modern look, consider motorized blinds. Battery-operated motors, controlled via remote or app, allow you to automate your blinds for convenience and privacy. My Direct Blinds offers Silent Glide motors, which work seamlessly with smart home systems like Google Home, Amazon Alexa. These motors are user-friendly and provide the ultimate in automation and control.
9. Tube Size Upgrade
For blinds over 2100mm, we automatically upgrade to a 50mm tube for added structural stability.
10. Budget Considerations
When choosing your Full Blockout Roller Blind System, we recommend opting for the best quality blockout fabric to ensure maximum room darkening performance. If your budget allows, consider adding a Full Blackout Cassette System and motorization for a premium result. If cost is a factor, a simpler Top and Sides System could provide an affordable option with minor light leakage.
We recommend a face fit for these systems always as there will always be some minimal light seepage when installed in the recess.
